206: Modern Psychoanalytic Theory and Treatment Techniques, Part II

Syllabus
Course Description
This course will focus on how to develop the narcissistic transference in the beginning stages of treatment and the Modern Analytic techniques that activate its development. A more in-depth understanding of how to use these techniques will be acquired through the use of specific dialogue from cases. Particular emphasis will be placed on comprehending the contact function of the ego, the object-oriented question and the utilization of joining techniques, as the specific techniques most relevant to the development of the narcissistic transference. In addition, the concept of the priorities of resistance will be introduced, as well as an understanding of how these priorities or stages of treatment are indicators of the client’s progress towards “cure.”
Course Objectives
- To recognize the necessity of developing the narcissistic transference as a means to provide therapeutic “cure” for the primitive narcissistic disorders.
- To develop an understanding of the Modern Analytic techniques that activate the development of the narcissistic transference
- To gain understanding of the priorities of resistance and how they are indicators of the client’s stage of treatment.
CE credits
- This program has been approved for 15 CE credits by the Kentucky Psychological Association (KPA). KPA is approved by Kentucky Board of Examiners of Psychology to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. KPA is also approved to offer professional continuing education by the Kentucky Board of Social Work, the Kentucky Board of Professional Art Therapists and the Kentucky Board of Professional Counselors. KPA maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
- In order to receive 15 CE credits, the participant must attend the entire program. In the event the participant misses one or more classes, the number of CE credits will reflect only those classes attended in full. As each class is of 1.5 hours duration, the number of credits for each recipient will be equal to the number of classes attended by that recipient multiplied by 1.5. The $25 CEU fee stated in the tuition information will be assessed regardless of the number of classes attended.
